Incorporation of the environmental dimension and sustainable development in higher education

The objective of this research was to analyze how the environmental dimension and sustainable development were incorporated into the higher education curriculum, taking as a case study the University of Pamplona, located in Pamplona, Norte de Santander, Colombia. The study was developed under a qualitative approach, adopting a phenomenological perspective. The sample consisted of six (06) teachers. It was evidenced that environmental education played a fundamental role in interpreting the interactions between natural and social systems, as well as in generating a deeper understanding of the role played by sociocultural factors in the emergence of environmental problems. In the face of the current global environmental crisis, the need to implement preventive and restorative actions to halt and, as far as possible, reverse the deterioration of the natural environment was highlighted, recognizing that the future represents a probability, while the present is a reality.
